The inhabitants of Les Planes call themselves Nyerros: a Nyerro is a nice character who appears at festivals, in publications and occasionally in implausible places in the village. But where does this name come from? Among the inhabitants of Les Planes there are some very curious explanations about the origin of the word, although in sources such as theEnciclopèdia Catalana, (Encyclopaedia of Catalonia) it is explained that the Nyerros were people who formed part of the noble house of the Nyers during the clashes with the Cadells (Puppies) in the 16th and 17th centuries. The symbol was a piglet, depicted taking part in acts of banditry.
