Another legend of Les Encies is the finding of the virgin, from which the current source sprang. Its name seems to come from the Latin word ‘incis’, which in Latin means incision or cut, since the ancient virgin was found in the 12th century in a crack under the old church. The Virgin of the Encies has been worshipped by midwives who consider its waters to be miraculous.
