The walk covers the path followed by thousands of exiles at the end of the Spanish Civil War. It departs from Mataró, in Maresme, passing through the counties of Vallès Oriental, La Selva, La Garrotxa, Ripollès, Vallespir and Conflent. The town of les Planes d’Hostoles is the point of arrival and departure for two of its stages respectively. Stage 5 leaves Osor to arrive in Planes d’Hostoles, and Stage 6 leaves Les Planes d’Hostoles in the direction of Olot.

It passes through the oak woodlands of El Far, skirts the Panta de Susqueda (reservoir) and arrives at the Romanesque church of Sant Martí Sacalm.
